'Barnes'
'Barnes' was released by NDSU in 2000. Classed as a Grp 0.3, 'Barnes' is 5 days earlier than Lambert, 2 days earllier than 'Council' and about 4 days later than 'Traill'. It has the Rps6 allele for resistance to phytophthora root rot races 1-4. Iron chlorosis tolerance is less than 'Traill' but similar to 'Council'. 'Barnes' has yielded well in water-saturated, heavy clay soils. It has purple flower color, grey pubescence, brown pod color, dull yellow seed coat and buff hila. 'Barnes' has high peroxidase seed coat activity.
