'Sargent'

'Sargent' was released by NDSU in 2001. It is an indeterminate type with white flowers, grey pubescence and brown pods. Seeds have a dull yellow seed coat and yellow hila. The variety has high peroxidase seed coat activity. 'Sargent' is high yielding for its maturity. Trials averaged over 3 years in eastern ND and western MN indicate that Sargent yields about 19% better than Lambert. 'Sargent' is about one day earlier than Surge, equal to Lambert and about two days later than 'Council'. Expected to replace Lambert, 'Sargent' provides excellent disease resistance for NDand MN growing conditions.
